“Ronald is a young, talented defender and we’re pleased to add him to our roster,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “Like many international players, he had to endure difficult circumstances over the last year and we’re eager to give him an opportunity to compete in a new environment.”
Hernandez, 23, is a Venezuelan fullback with a wealth of international experience. His 17 caps for La Vinotinto includes such occasions as Copa America and South American World Cup qualifiers.
After impressing in Norway with Stabaek, he made the move to Aberdeen in January of 2020. Unfortunately his time in Scotland hasn’t gone to plan as he’s appeared sparingly for the club and has struggled to settle in due to the global pandemic and not being able to see his family.
Both the player and club will be hoping he rediscovers the form that saw him win a spot alongside Josef Martinez in the Venezuelan national team. If he can do that then Atlanta have found themselves quite a deal.
Welcome to Atlanta, Ronald!
