Kit numbers leaked for Santiago Sosa and Ronald Hernandez?

Young players, low numbers

Atlanta United is in the middle of a roster rebuild that has kicked into full gear in the past few weeks. That means some old faces are gone and new ones are being brought in. As a part of that rebuild the team is a few days away from officially revealing its new kit. New players and new kits means one thing: new numbers.

As ATLUTD FanTV discovered, the numerals that will adorn two of the new Atlanta United players have been posted on the team’s website.

It appears that Slammin Santi Sosa will wear number five. The cinco kit has deep history with Atlanta United as it was famously worn by team legend Leandro Gonzalez Pirez. It was also worn by Eric Remedi. New arrival Ronald Hernandez will apparently take the kit number that was on the back of Franco Escobar and before him Tyrone Mears — standard of a right back.

To the extent that kit numbers mean anything, perhaps they signal the expectations that the club has for the new players. Numbers 1-11 are steeped in lore in soccer as demonstrated by the past performances of LGP and Escobar for the Five Stripes. Time will tell if the new arrivals live up to the reputation of those players, but the club seems to think they deserve the chance to try.
