The rumors are at least partially true. Atlanta United will introduce a third kit into their wardrobe for the first-time ever in 2021. Club President Darren Eales confirmed the news to The Athletic on Tuesday.

“We’re thrilled to be the first MLS club since 2016 to have the opportunity to feature a third kit,” Atlanta United president Darren Eales told The Athletic in a written statement. “In collaboration with Adidas, we’ve designed a kit that reflects who we are as a club and as a community in a bold and creative way. We’re excited to introduce the kit to our supporters later this year and to see the design come to life on the pitch.”

While no details of the aesthetics of the future kit were revealed by Atlanta’s president, he did shed light on some very cool news. Proceeds from sales of the third kit this season will go directly to local charities instead of back into the club.

The third kit is scheduled for a midseason release to the public and will only be worn by the team in up to five matches according to league rules.

It was leaked by FootyHeadlines in January that the club would introduce a third kit and the design would feature a pre-dominantly Maroon base color. It’s unclear at this time how accurate that report is with the club unveiling a training kit very similar to that description already.

In addition to Eales confirming the arrival of the kit, The Athletic also reported that Atlanta United will be the only club in the entire league with the ability to release a third kit. This is reportedly due to the Five Stripes being the only club to reach a certain threshold of kit sales. So, pat yourselves on the back for making this possible.
