It appears that Atlanta United have identified a third Argentine centerback target in this transfer window. After missing out on Hector David Martinez and Lautaro Giannetti for various reasons, the club apparently have their sights now set on Independiente’s Alan Franco, according to TyC Sports.

According to the prolific news outlet, the Five Stripes are interested in signing the 24-year-old defender and are considering a formal transfer offer for the player. It is not a guarantee that Independiente will sell at this juncture. The report states that while the club have promised Franco that they would sell him at some point, their manager Julio César Falcioni does not want to lose the defender.
Franco has been at Independiente since 2017 and was a part of the team led by Ezequiel Barco that won the 2017 Copa Sudamericana.
It remains up in the air just how far along this rumor may be. But it’s clear that the club are dead set on acquiring a starting caliber centerback as soon as possible. Let’s see if their third attempt is indeed the charm.
