For the second time this offseason, Atlanta United has acquired an international roster spot via trade, this time with the Colorado Rapids in exchange for $225k in General Allocation Money.

Atlanta traded with Nashville SC in December to acquire an international slot in exchange for $175k of GAM. The Five Stripes had traded last year’s co-scoring leader Jon Gallagher to Austin FC.

By the current public count, Atlanta is over its threshold of available internationals, which we outlined here in a post earlier this month. This acquisition will obviously help, but it still seems that Atlanta would need to clear an international player from the roster or acquire a green card (Anton Walkes and Jurgen Damm seemingly being most likely to be a candidate). There’s still time, but there’s now only three weeks remaining before MLS teams must be in compliance with league roster rules ahead of the 2021 season kicking off in mid-April.
