Atlanta United announced today ahead of it’s 2021 MLS home opener and first game being broadcast through its regional television network partner Bally Sports South that national soccer pundit Maurice Edu will be joining play-by-play commentator Kevin Egan in the booth this year. Edu will continue working on national broadcasts outside of these duties. Jillian Sakovits will remain as the broadcast team’s host and sideline reporter.

Edu has a storied career by American standards in the sport, playing professionally for 10 years with stops in MLS, the Scottish Premier League with Rangers, and a spell with the Premier League’s Stoke City. Edu racked up 46 international caps during that time, including an appearances in the 2010 World Cup.

Edu formally retired from his playing career in 2017 and has since worked as a national soccer pundit for Fox Sports. He will replace Dan Gargan as Kevin Egan’s partner on the broadcast.

While I, for one, appreciated Gargan’s energy, honesty and excitement on the broadcast, I’m excited to see Edu in this role. He has great experience as a player and has honed his craft as a commentator over the last number of years. He will also challenge Kevin Egan’s suit game in the broadcast booth.

Welcome to Atlanta Mo!
