MLS: Atlanta United FC at Orlando City SC Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta United returns to where the 2021 season began as they meet their friendly neighbors to the south tonight at Exploria Stadium in a sort of midseason progress check.

Since that scoreless draw back on April 17th, things haven’t exactly gone the way they were supposed to. The Five Stripes sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, are still trying to escape a ten match winless run, and sent a head coach packing for the second time in as many seasons. However, the team’s recent performances under interim Rob Valentino have shown the energy and passion it previously lacked, and with over half the schedule still to play, a turnaround is still in the cards.

Atlanta will once again play to a national audience, this time being broadcast on ESPN, in a matchup that is never short on emotion. Is this where the second half stampede up the table begins?
