Atlanta United adds midfielder Amar Sejdic in trade with CF Montreal

Atlanta United spends some allocation money on midfield help

MLS: CF Montreal at Nashville SC Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta United announced it will acquire midfielder Amar Sejdic from CF Montreal in exchange for $100k of General Allocation Money up front with potentially $50k more to be added through incentives. The trade will be effective tomorrow when MLS’s secondary transfer window opens.

Sejdic occupied a supplemental roster spot for Montreal, where the German-born midfielder has made 4 starts and played 388 minutes so far this season. He did not play against Atlanta when Montreal visited Mercedes-Benz Stadium in May. Sejdic does not occupy an international slot.

With Emerson Hyndman out for the year with a torn ACL and Franco Ibarra week-to-week with an injured hamstring, Atlanta United is desperately in need of bodies who can play box-to-box.

Sejdic will take part in training with his new Atlanta United teammates tomorrow as the team prepares for its next match on Thursday against Nashville SC at Nissan Stadium.

If announcing a signing prior to the official opening of the transfer window is any indication, it should be a busy period for Atlanta United’s front office.
