Atlanta United’s transfer deadline day signing Luiz Araujo could be available for Atlanta United’s match this weekend against LAFC if the team can sort out paperwork related to his international visa, team Vice President Carlos Bocanegra told reporters in a press conference Tuesday.
Araujo, who comes to Atlanta from Lille OSC, had participated through the duration of his former team’s training camp up until his departure, including preseason matches. He most recent played 85 minutes in the French Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. (Lille won that match 1-0).
Bocanegra indicated that the timing of the completion of said paperwork is an unknown, and the team could receive notice as soon as shortly prior to the game that Araujo would be eligible to play. If he does, we’ll certainly learn more about how interim head coach Rob Valentino will use him alongside the team’s other attacking players.
In the meantime, Araujo will train and participate in team activities. He has not yet trained with the Five Stripes, but is planning to start doing so Wednesday according to Bocanegra.
