MLS announced today that Atlanta United left back George Bello has been named to the 2021 MLS All Star roster that will face off against the best of LIGA MX this Wednesday at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.

Bello joins Inter Miami midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro as the alternates selected to replace LA Galaxy’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, LAFC’s Carlos Vela, New England’s Carles Gil and New England’s Tajon Buchanan, all f whom are unavailable for the week of events.

Bello joins his club teammate Miles Robinson as Atlanta’s representatives, an impressive feat for the club considering both players have only ever played at the professional level for Atlanta United.

The downside is that two key members of Atlanta’s back line will miss most of Gonzalo Pineda’s first week in charge, on top of flying round trip across the country after a busy period of matches. It’s unknown at this point whether the players’ inclusion will affect their availability for the team’s coming match this weekend against Nashville SC.

But that aside, it’s a terrific and deserved honor for both players. The 2021 MLS All Star Game will be broadcast live in the United States on FS1 and Univision Wednesday beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
