Gregg Berhalter has made his selections for the September window of World Cup qualifying, and Atlanta United defenders Miles Robinson and George Bello have made the 26-player roster, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday morning.
Robinson has found himself very much in Berhalter’s plans this year after winning his first cap in 2019 and with the injury to Aaron Long. He played every minute in the Gold Cup, culminating in his match-winner late in the second half of extra time to lift the Americans over Mexico in the final in Las Vegas on Aug. 1.
Bello played less of a part in the Gold Cup but received a start in the final along with his domestic teammate and helped to neutralize a lethal El Tri attack.
The United States travel to El Salvador on Sep. 2 to open World Cup qualifying before taking on Canada on Sep. 5 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. It closes the qualifying window on Sep. 8 in Honduras.
Bello and Robinson are 2 of Atlanta’s 4 players that have been called into qualifying rosters for their nations, with Josef Martinez and Ronald Hernandez named to Venezuela’s squad on Wednesday.
