Back in December, Atlanta United held its American Family Insurance Dream Tryouts, where hundreds of soccer players competed to impress the club and get a shot to move on to a full trial.
Now, one of the participants will look to move forward in the professional ranks. ATL UTD 2 announced that local product Kevin Barajas, a midfielder, has signed a contract ahead of the team’s first training session tomorrow.
“Kevin is a player I’ve known for quite some time and have followed his trajectory,” coach Scott Donnelly said in a statement released by the club. “As a local talent, it is great to see him come back to his roots to be part of our inaugural roster, as it speaks to the positive impact Atlanta United has made on the local soccer community.”
Barajas is a Marietta product and played for Mt. Paran Christian School in Atlanta and Georgia United at a club level. He was a four-year player at Kentucky, where he appeared in all 18 games and started 17 as a senior in 2017.
Barajas becomes the ninth signing for the club. He will be out at the training grounds on Tuesday as ATL UTD 2 opens their preseason training in preparation of the season opener against New York Red Bulls II on March 24.
