ATL UTD 2 saw an away point slip away in the closing moments of the match as a stoppage-time penalty by Ilija Ilic gave Louisville City FC a 2-1 win at Slugger Field on Saturday night.
This had a similar start to the teams’ meeting in April as Cameron Lancaster opened the scoring in the 23rd minute to put Louisville ahead 1-0. But ATL UTD 2 pulled even in the 29th on a pretty goal from outside the 18 by Laurent Kissiedou.

Louisville had the better of the second half chances as they threatened to take the lead, but couldn’t convert as it remained 1-1 late into the match. But the ending would match April’s events - and again it was the home side winning a penalty in the dying seconds as Shawn Nicklaw shoved a Lousiville attacker down in the box. Ilic stepped up and fired the shot in the upper right corner to claim all three points for his team.
It’s easily the most disappointing defeat of the season for the young squad. While they battled one of the best clubs in the league for the majority of the match, they’ll leave Louisville wishing that it could have been a different result. They visit North Carolina FC on Friday, with match time set for 7:00pm in Cary, N.C.
