Tyler Wolff named USL Player of the Week

Caleb Wiley also honored with Team of the Week Selection

Atlanta United’s academy continues to impress in the USL-Championship. After being involved in 4 of Atlanta United 2’s 6 goals against Indy Eleven, Tyler Wolff has been named the USL Championship Player of the Week. Wolff made history in that match, being the first Atlanta United academy product to score a hat trick in a professional match and as the fastest-scored goal in Atlanta United 2’s brief history.

Two of his goals came thanks to tenacious personal effort in Coach Jack Collison’s new pressing scheme and his other from a slick pass by fellow youngster Darwin Matheus. Wolff closed out his scoring tally and his night with a well-placed corner to the head of Mackey Diop, earning Wolff an assist just before being subbed out in the 59th minute.

This comes as Wolff undergoes a bit of a reset to his 2021 professional season. After signing a Homegrown Player contract in 2020, Atlanta United sought to find a home for Wolff in the central midfield. After struggling with that transition under three different coaching regimes, Wolff has returned to his roots under the watchful eye of his former academy coach Jack Collison. Under Collison, Wolff has returned to his more natural wide forward position and has seen an immediate boost in confidence.

Also earning honors for his strong play was left-back Caleb Wiley, who continues to impress as just a 16-year-old in the league.

The future looks bright for the 2s as they look for their first post-season appearance, and for Atlanta United’s academy as they continue to churn out compelling youngsters full of potential.

Congratulations Wolffy and Wiley!
