Could Atlanta United be on the verge of adding some depth to its thin fullback corps? If a report from Foot Mercato is to be believed, a signing of a former Premier League star is on the horizon.
According to the report, Atlanta are rumored to be in conversation with ex-Arsenal and Manchester City man and former French national team member Bacary Sagna. Sagna is at the tail end of his career - he’s 35 - and is currently out of contract after Serie A side Benevento opted not to pick up his option at the conclusion of a six-month deal signed in February.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow, Atlanta are running out of time if they are to shore up their backline. Greg Garza is out while recovering from shoulder surgery. Mikey Ambrose and Sal Zizzo both are on the shelf for a while after sustaining tears to their meniscus. Jose Hernandez is on loan with ATL UTD 2, meaning that the club’s pretty thin on options.
Adding Sagna, despite his age, would add a veteran presence to the club while its injured players get back to health. We’ll see what ultimately comes of this in relatively short order, so stay tuned.
UPDATE: Despite rumors linking Sagna to Atlanta, Montreal Impact have officially announced his signing. So much for that.
