Mario Antio of TyC Sports reports that prized Argentine-American goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo will sweeten the deal for Atlanta United as they acquire Marcelino Moreno from Lánus.

Novo will go on a free loan from Lánus II to Atlanta United 2 for the duration of the 2020 season with an option to buy 80% of his rights for $3 million this winter. Novo will join Erik Lopez as one of Atlanta United’s new U-22 acquisitions and will likely be in a good position to succeed Brad Guzan sometime in the next few seasons.

Novo brings an abundance of international experience with him to Atlanta. He is a regular starter for Argentina with the U-15 and U-17 Youth National Teams at the 2019 U-17 World Cup and the U-17 South American Championships in 2019 where he tallied five clean sheets in eight matches.

Like with most young goalkeepers, his peak value and his prime will arrive a few years later than field players so to have him already garnering this kind of attention and valuation from our club points to a long-term commitment from Atlanta United and a potential future with a high profile European club.

Novo joins an Atlanta United 2 side already featuring a talented youth international goalkeeper in Vicente Reyes who competed against Novo with the Chilean U-17s. Fans can expect to see an exciting competition between these two talented youngsters next season as they battle for starts with the 2’s and in international competitions in South America.

Welcome to Atlanta, Rocco!
