This probably won't shock anyone.

Atlanta United signed Martinez to a year-long loan from Torino on February 2nd, 2017 before acquiring him permanently in March in large part due to his spectacular performances against Minnesota United and the Chicago Fire, scoring five goals in just those two matches.

What went right this season: When playing, Martinez was the most captivating person on the pitch. Even though he missed close to half of the season due to injury, Martinez was still in the hunt for the Golden Boot. That's utterly amazing. He showcased technical ability time and time again that not many in MLS can duplicate, and quickly became a fan favorite because of it.

What does he need to improve on: Unfortunately, this isn't something necessarily in his control. However, if Martinez can wrap himself in bubble wrap that keeps him from getting injured for an entire season without said bubble wrap interfering in his play, then more power to him. In all seriousness though, Martinez just has to stay fit and the goals will follow.

What role will he play in 2018: Martinez will be absolutely critical to Atlanta United's MLS Cup hopes. That's why it's so important he stay healthy. Martinez alone was responsible for over a fourth of Atlanta's goals in 2017.
