Atlanta United FC is reportedly set to add another goalkeeper to the fray. According to AS Chile, Fabian Cerda, who currently plays for Trasandino de Los Andes in Chile’s Segunda División of domestic soccer, is headed to MLS to play for Atlanta. AS reports that Cerda is expected in the U.S. at some point in the coming week before the club’s opener against the New York Red Bulls next Sunday.
Cerda joined the senior side of CD Universidad Católica in 2009, where he saw six appearances from 2009-2015. In 2014, he was sent on loan to Cobresal, where he appeared in three matches. He has been with Trasandino since 2015 and has registered 42 appearances as the club’s primary man in net.
Cerda told AS that playing in MLS was a “dream” and that he hopes that he can make a “living...for many years” here in the U.S. We’ll see how he figures into the lineup with the opening match just eight days away; Alec Kann is the projected starter until the Premier League season is over, after which he is set to make way for Brad Guzan. It’s possible that this is a loan that will extend to the end of the Chilean domestic season, but more details should be revealed soon.
