Last week, in my honest opinion, Atlanta United fans stole the MLS Goal of the Week award for Miguel Almiron. His volley against Minnesota United was undoubtedly great, but again, in my opinion, San Jose Earthquakes Anibal Godoy had the best goal. But that’s neither here nor there. Atlanta fans flexed their muscle and got the award.
Well, there’s a chance to do it again this week and this time we actually deserve it. Josef Martinez is up for the award this time for his amazing goal to cap off the 4-0 victory against the Chicago Fire. It wasn’t just the goal, it was also the assist by Yamil Asad, who Matthew Doyle credited for being one of the top three assists of Week 3 in the league.

But, the touch to take it around the goalkeeper was great and the finish from nearly an impossible angle was even better. After watching all five candidates, it’s clear that Martinez is most deserving. All the other goals are standard and/or the result of poor goalkeeping. Let’s flex those muscles once more and get that award.
