When it was announced that Atlanta United goalkeeper Alec Kann would feature in Charleston for the Battery’s match against the Richmond Kickers, Five Stripes supporters were excited to hear that Kann had reached such an important step on the road to recovery.
However, Kann, who had previously spent time in Charleston in 2012 on their way to their fourth league title, would only get 45 minutes under his belt after being replaced by Odisnel Cooper in first half stoppage time.
The sub seemed strange, given that Kann hadn’t really had much to do. There was no real challenge for him to hurt himself in either, which makes you wonder if it was planned, but bringing off a ‘keeper at any time during a match isn’t exactly normal strategy.
It’ll be interesting to see how the goalkeeping situation moves forward, if Kann will stay with Charleston for the next couple of weeks, or if he’ll go back to Atlanta, maybe knowing that he wasn’t quite ready for a return just yet.
