After months of speculation that was hampered thanks in part to the coronavirus outbreak, Atlanta United on Wednesday announced that it had signed former Tigres UANL winger Jürgen Damm. Damm will join the club following the MLS Is Back Tournament, set to begin on July 8 with Atlanta’s first match coming on July 11.

Damm’s discovery rights were held by Houston, which Atlanta acquired for $50,000 of GAM.

Damm debuted for Estudiantes Tecos’ senior side in 2012 at the age of 20 before moving to Pachuca on transfer in June 2013. He appeared 67 times with the club before signing for Tigres in June 2015, where he appeared in 137 matches, but in Feburary stated that he was eyeing a move to MLS with Atlanta then rumored as a destinaton. Damm also has appeared 12 times for El Tri, but was not part of Juan Carlos Osorio’s final selection for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

A winger, Damm’s pace is one of his main draws, and Atlanta will surely be looking to leverage that with the Mexican now in the fold.

Welcome to Atlanta, Jürgen!

UPDATE: Atlanta later announced that it had waived Luiz Fernando, signed to Atlanta United 2 in November 2018 before being given a first-team deal in August 2019.
