Atlanta United continued a busy week on Thursday as it added Tyler Wolff on a Homegrown Player deal, making him the 7th HGP in the club’s history.

Wolff, the son of Josh Wolff, the former U.S. international and head coach of incoming MLS club Austin FC, appeared in the starting XI for Atlanta United 2’s season opener this year against the Charleston Battery and figures to remain there for the foreseeable future to develop alongside and against professionals. Prior to his time in the USL, his most recent role was at midfield for the Atlanta United Academy’s U16-U17 side, where he scored 14 goals in 11 appearances. Before joining Atlanta’s academy, he was a part of Columbus Crew SC’s youth setup while his father served as assistant coach with the 1st team.

The 17-year-old will look to join a relatively short list of successful HGPs from the Atlanta system.

While Andrew Carleton and Lagos Kunga are still signed to the club, both are on loan to USL Championship sides and have yet to consistently affect the 1st team. George Campbell recorded his first top-flight appearance against FC Cincinnati in March after a succesful spell with the 2s, while George Bello has been pegged as another future defender in MLS but has been plagued by injury throughout his brief career. Chris Goslin and Patrick Okonkwo are out of contract.
