Atlanta United legend Clint Irwin to miss match vs. former club

Aww...

It’s a sad day in Atlanta and Toronto today. All the talk surrounding the upcoming Eastern conference battle between Atlanta United and Toronto FC, a possible playoff preview, was of Clint Irwin getting to face the club he served so faithfully and loyally for the first time since his offseason trade.

The Toronto FC goalkeeper will miss out on this weekend’s match after suffering a hamstring injury during the club’s 0-0 draw against Sporting Kansas City. Five Stripes supporters have been in mourning since hearing the devastating news.

"His passion for the crest made me experience feelings I haven't felt in the longest time and inspired me to get back in touch with my estranged father,” said Larry Charles, a life-long Atlanta United fan from Alpharetta.

Irwin’s injury is only expected to keep him out of action for 4-5 weeks. These two clubs meet each other again in the final match of the season in Atlanta, giving supporters a glimmer of hope of seeing their hero once more.
